Rongai Route Guide: Climbing Kilimanjaro from the North
If you’re looking for a quieter, scenic, and less-traveled way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the Rongai Route is the perfect choice. Starting from the northern side of the mountain, near the Kenyan border, this route offers a unique perspective of Africa’s highest peak. At Mandari Travel, we recommend the Rongai Route for trekkers seeking solitude, excellent views, and a high chance of summit success.
Why Choose the Rongai Route?
Unlike the more popular southern routes (like Machame or Marangu), Rongai is Kilimanjaro’s only northern approach. It’s drier, often sunnier, and much less crowded—making it ideal during the rainy season or for those looking to escape the crowds.
Highlights of the Rongai Route:
- Fewer trekkers = more solitude
- Great chance to see wildlife like colobus monkeys
- Stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and Kenya’s plains
- Gradual ascent profile, improving acclimatization
- High summit success rate
