Do You Need a Visa to Enter Tanzania?

Yes,most international travelers need a visa to enter Tanzania, including for Kilimanjaro climbs.

Types of Visas:

  • Tourist Visa (Single Entry) â€“ Valid for up to 90 days. Most climbers use this.
  • Multiple Entry Visa â€“ Suitable for frequent travelers or those visiting nearby countries and returning.
  • East African Tourist Visa â€“ Covers Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda (not always accepted at all borders).

How to Get a Tanzanian Visa

You can obtain your visa in three main ways:

1. Online (eVisa)

Apply in advance through the official Tanzania Immigration website. This is recommended to avoid delays on arrival.

2. On Arrival

Available for many nationalities at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and major border crossings.

  • Bring: Valid passport, $50–$100 USD cash
  • Note: May involve longer wait times

3. Tanzanian Embassy or Consulate

Apply through your local embassy if you prefer a visa in hand before traveling.

Passport Requirements

  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date.
  • You must have at least one blank page for the visa stamp.

Health Entry Requirements

  • Yellow Fever Vaccine: Required if arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever-endemic country. Bring your yellow card if applicable.

Travel Insurance
