The 8-day Lemosho Route is one of Mount Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and rewarding trekking options. Starting on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Lemosho Route begins in dense rainforest, allowing hikers to witness a range of wildlife and lush vegetation. Over the course of the first two days, the trail winds through this vibrant, green forest ecosystem, gradually ascending into heath and moorland zones where the trees give way to unique alpine vegetation, volcanic rock formations, and panoramic mountain views.
By the third day, the route merges with the Machame Route near Shira Plateau, continuing along the southern circuit of the mountain. This section provides incredible scenery, including views of the peak from multiple angles, as well as opportunities for gradual altitude gain, making it one of the better routes for successful acclimatization. The trail itself is narrow in places and includes several steep, undulating sections that challenge trekkers with a variety of terrain types, from rocky ridges to dusty paths and exposed alpine zones.
Despite the physical demands, the 8-day version of the Lemosho Route is ideal for climbers looking to maximize their chances of reaching the summit.
